"Embroidery traditionally has been regarded as women’s work and the teaching of embroidery as a means of preparing young women for domesticity." Well we say, no way. Embroider as art; embroider because it's fun; embroider because you want to embroider.
Join Madeline, our resident subversive embroiderer, to learn embroidery basics. First we'll practice stitching, and then you'll embroider your own piece, with one-on-one assistance from Madeline as needed.
In this workshop, you will:
- choose your hoop size
- choose your fabric and embroidery thread
-learn these stitches: back stitch, straight stitch, lazy daisy, and french knot
- practice on scrap fabric
- set up your hoop to create your own take-home art
- receive classroom and one-on-one instruction as needed
- leave with your finished art, or at least a started embroidery piece and the skills and tools you need to finish!
All materials provided (and snacks, of course!). No experience necessary.
