Intro to Watercolors: Flowering Cacti at Paper Craft Pantry

The Teacher Rachel is a very talented painter and her work with watercolors is impressive. We watched her create a cactus with only a few swipes of her brush. She also has an eye for colors and color mixing to add intrigue. She was a good teacher and taught us the skills required to make our own watercolor cacti and flowers. She does have strong opinions on what your cacti should look like (colors, etc.) …

Intro to Modern Calligraphy: Paper Craft Pantry

I hadn’t done calligraphy since I was about 10 years old when I got a calligraphy and designs practice book and decided to make every person I’d ever met a handmade card. I’m pretty sure that drive lasted a solid 10 minutes and I remember almost none of it. But THIS calligraphy class, this was upscale, classy, modern. It made you feel fancy, like a British internal monologue should have been reciting everything you wrote …

For the Love of Gluten: Central Market Cooking Class

Gluten has gotten a bad name recently, which led April, our instructor for the evening, to design a class completely based around Gluten and how delicious it can be. We made Naan, Flour Tortillas, Pizza and Cream Puffs. As you can imagine, we left full and blissfully in love with gluten!  The Teacher April was knowledgeable and passionate about all things gluten. Her tortilla recipe she taught us was even passed down to her from her …

Intro to Loom Weaving Workshop

We’ve almost all had some form of weaving experience as kids. Whether you had a toy loom with basic yarn or went to a factory or cultural center where they talked about it. Weaving made a short appearance in my life as a child, but didn’t really stick. What I made was never good enough to do anything with. So I thought it was odd when I saw a weaving class and immediately signed up. …

Seasonal Pie Baking at Make it Sweet

This pie class is the perfect way to spend an afternoon before the holidays hit. It was a great way to bond over the season and to prep for the chaos ahead. Plus Chef Pavla took us from afraid of attempting our own pie crust to truly understanding the saying “as easy as pie”... The Teacher Pavla is awesome. There are no other words. She’s exactly what you’d think of if I say she’s like …

Holiday Blown Glass Ornaments with Blue Moon Glassworks

The Glass Blown Ornaments class at Blue Moon Glassworks was really fun and left us feeling super accomplished! We went in hoping that maybe one of our ornaments would turn out ok enough to hang on the back of the tree, but left with 10 front of tree ornaments that people compliment all the time! Plus we got to play with fire and molten glass... The Teacher Jim is great! You can really see his …

Cookie Decorating Workshop - Taco Tuesday Theme

First off I want to say that I LOVED this class! It’s hard to go wrong when cookies are involved, but when the cookies are delicious and almost too adorable to eat (see the previous point) it’s a win.  The Teacher Jessica was an amazing teacher and coached us through her methods and process, while at the same time giving us the space to explore our own creativity. It was less “you must do it …
